An Exercise

The essentials of Bible

I don’t want to write a long blog, but to propose a small exercise. I hope this helps us for dialogue and to understand (to think deeper) into the essentials.

If you are a Christian, Bible is the Holy Book for you. I don’t want to get into a discussion on the importance you give to Bible. The exercise is simple; We are going to lose all the copies of Bible, and you got the precious opportunity to choose and preserve one passage or one verse or one event from the Bible. Which would be that passage, that you will choose, which you think contains the essentials of the Bible?

The simple rules are… don’t choose one line each from so many chapters or books. It should be continous. It could be a parable, a miracle, an event, or a teaching. If you are choosing the sermon on the mount in the gospel of Mathew, you have to choose one passage, not the entire story spreading across three chapters.

A simple discussion on this on small groups, or among friends, or among Christians who think differently, can be helpful for us to understand what is “the essential” of my (and their) faith. And to understand, why s/he and I (despite being Christians) think very differently…

Probably in the next post, I will write about my choice. I have two favourites. Still have to choose one from them. If you have an answer and if you wish to comment as a response, feel free to do it.
