Intuition is a powerful urge or quality which we come in contact with occasionally. One of the definitions given is ‘Intuition is a process that gives us the ability to know something directly without analytic reasoning, bridging the gap between the conscious and non-conscious parts of our mind, and also between instinct and reason.” It is a gift available to all, whether he is educated or not. I also read a post which speaks about the things intuitive people do differently. Some of the main things are

Though science is a very rational enterprise, there are many instances of scientists having their intuitions as the starting point of their discovery. We have Kekule discovering the benzene ring during sleep and not in the laboratory or in his table. Probably that legendary apple made Newton to come up with the idea of gravity. Albert Einstein has been widely quoted as saying, “The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift.” (I am only saying intuition is a powerful tool; just sitting idly and waiting for intuition may not help in most cases)

Everybody should have some moments of intuitions. Love at first sight is a very wonderful example. Mothers normally have intuitions about their children and their needs. Even when I made my decision to leave my studies and join Jesuits, I didn’t have perfect reasons to convince my parents or others, but I had an intuition that God has something for me in the Jesuits. I still have that sense of it and still search for it.

I don’t have the courage to say that all intuitions should be taken as gospel truth; but it can be moments of significance/grace, which could be tested based on other parameters. Any scientists’intuition won’t be accepted unless he/someone else is able to give a conclusive evidence. Intuition can be a powerful tool to live life more authentically; to become that unique me. It could be also be manipulated to justify some of your acts or deeds. The choice is ours.
