Magis gives an opening
Magis is a familiar word to anyone following Ignatian Spirituality. The Latin word means ‘more’. One of the key phrases phrase of Ignatian Spirituality is AMDG, which is Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam (All for the greater glory of God). The superlatives are the catch-words.
I watched two wonderful videos from American Moral theologian Brian Massingale; the first one speaks on the topic of race and the Church, which I would recommend highly. The second one speaks Magis and the question of race.
In the second video, he gives a beautiful interpretation of MAGIS; it is the call to become big-soul people; to be bigger than that what we ever thought was…. to come to our senses (like the prodigal son) to stop believing that some people are more important than others.
How can we become Big-soul people? People with new-thinking? People with newer-visions…..The only answer I know is,
Start using them… Start listening to different voices….
