Two sons...and their stories..

When we hear two sons, one of the most popular accounts in the Bible is the one on the prodigal son. But there is another story where a father asks two sons to do a particular job. When the elder son rejected in the beginning, the youngest immediately accepted the offer. Interestingly the eldest son did the work and youngest didn’t. (Unlike the parable of prodigal son, here the eldest son is the model to be imitated). Two thoughts from my side…

• Some of us believers can be a good example of the youngest son who profess their faith, but don’t do the actions associated with it. Some of the non-believers (or the people who are not in the good books of church leaders )can be like the eldest son who rejects (or doesn’t expressly profess) faith, but do the acts of love and justice commanded by God.
• Another passage that can be associated with this is surely the parable of the prodigal son, where the villain of the story in the beginning becomes the hero at the end. Or villain could embrace god’s forgiveness and love, whereas the original hero couldn’t and that’s an extremely dangerous situation.

I hope that our religious practices do help us not to remain heroes or heroines in paper (or in the beginning), but inspire us to create world that includes everyone and their desires.
